In English, we have been busy working hard reading our new Read Write Inc texts in our different groups. We have been focusing on spelling using the sounds we know and our Fred Fingers and have been practising our letter formation.

In Maths, we have developed our knowledge of number bonds by using numicon and cubes to investigate all of the ways to make 10. We have also looked at finding 1 more and less than a number before really challenging ourselves and finding 2 and 10 more and less.

In Science, we have been exploring the human body. We have been comparing similarities and differences of different animals bodies and our body. There was lots to discover and the children had fun looking at the different animals.

In Topic, we are focusing on our topic Victorian Britain. We have looked at Victorian houses and their features. We noticed a lot of similarities and some of the children have realised that they live in a house that was built during the Victorian times.

In R.E, we have been looking at the Jewish festival of Sukkot. We found out all about it and then designed our own Sukkah for our friends and family to come and eat in.

Our Learning Hero of the Week this week was Cherish for showing resilience in her phonics and building up her confidence in using her voice. Well done Cherish.

Our Championship Point winner was James. Well done for collecting those points up James!

Our Championship Team winner was Self-Belief. Well done for working as a team!

Percy the Panda went home with Marley this week. We can’t wait to see what they’ve both been up to.

We’ve had a fabulous first few weeks in year 1.

The children have settled into the rules and routines of the classroom brilliantly and have worked so hard even though it is a big jump from Reception! We are looking forward to the year ahead and cannot wait to see the progress the children make.

First Week of the New Year

September8

What a fabulous first week we have had!

The children have settled into the rules and routines of the classroom brilliantly and have worked so hard even though it is a big jump from Reception! We are looking forward to the year ahead and cannot wait to see the progress the children make.

Although we have only been in school for 3 days we have filled them with lots of learning!

In English, we have been busy working hard reading our new Read Write Inc texts in our different groups. We have been focusing on spelling using the sounds we know and our Fred Fingers and have been practising our letter formation.

In Maths, we have developed our knowledge of number by ordering numbers 0-20 and finding the missing numbers on the number tracks. We have also practised our number formation and are aiming to consistently form these correctly.

We have used water colours to create the front cover of our topic books ready to start our lessons next week. Our topic this half term is based around the Victorians with our enquiry question being ‘What was life like before the TV’. More details can be found on the Topic grid which was sent home today.

Important Information:

Reading books are due in at least once a week.

Home Learning is given out on Fridays and is expected to return the following Wednesday.

This week the children have been asked to access Active Learn.

Bring an Adult Week!

June25

What a wonderful week of learning in the lovely sunshine.

This week in Maths, we have been focussing our attention on number and the four operations and looking at how we can deepen our knowledge around this. We have been using different resources and methods to help us find all of the ways to make numbers within 20 and have been reasoning to work things our logically.

In English, we have started our next Power of Reading book. This half term we are looking at How to Find Gold. The children were further introduced to the book and had to think about what they would do if they had to go on a hunt for gold. We then wrote a letter to Anna and Crocodile to explain what we would do and eagerly awaited a response. They were very impressed with our writing. We also created our own story map and acted it out with our partners.

In Science, we have been looking at materials and what we already know. We started to investigate what materials different objects were made out of.

In ICT, we took our learning outside and created a large treasure map. We then had to use algorithms to move the bee-bot from the start to the treasure.

In R.E, we were introduced to celebrations. This week, we have looked at and compared Christian and Hindu weddings. There were lots of things that we very similar.

Thank you to all of the parents/carers who came to our Bring an Adult afternoon on Thursday. We had great fun making rafts out of lollypop sticks for our new English book and then seeing whether they floated or sunk. We then had a fun quiz in the hall where it got a competitive between the Dads. It was such great fun.

Our Championship Point winner last week was Jimmy. Well done for collecting those championship points Jimmy.

Our Team Championship Point winner was Self-Belief. They’ve been working hard as a team, encouraging each other to get those championship points. Well done Self-Belief.

Important Information:

As a school we have Attendance Avengers where each class can win prizes. We have managed to have our extra playtime and are now working together to earn that cinema afternoon. Our attendance last week was 87%, which isn’t very good, but we do understand that unfortunately we have 2 members of our class who are off school due to them being very poorly. Let’s keep aiming high and go for the next prize.

Home Learning – This is sent out on a Friday and the children are expected to have this returned by Monday. The children receive spellings and maths homework relating to their learning that week.

Reading books – It is expected that these are changed at least once a week. Our main days for changing reading books are Tuesdays and Thursdays.

P.E – This takes place every Monday. Please ensure your child has a P.E kit available in school.

Book Swap Shop is well underway. Remember to bring in any unwanted books and you’ll receive a token this can then be exchanged at the shop on Tuesday’s.

Active Learn – Remember to access this wonderful resource where you can read books, complete comprehension and grammar tasks and much more!

Rockstar Times Tables – The children have been given their login for this fantastic new resource. It has been great to see how many children have accessed this at home. Well done!

Transition – On Friday we informed the all of the children who their new teacher will be. I am very lucky that I will be taking the children up to Year 2 with me but also sad that Miss Howson won’t be joining us. I’m looking forward to seeing the children through another year in their school life and can’t wait to see how their learning progresses further.

Unfortunately one of our class members, Emily, is poorly and in hospital at the moment. The children have made her a card and sent their get well wishes. We hope she has a speedy recovery because we are missing her a lot in school.

Thank you for your continued support.

First week back!

June18

This week in Maths, we have introduced a mini project based around time. We told the time to 0’clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to and worked out the time the clocks were showing. We then looked at working out what the time would be in 1 hour and half an hour later. This was quite tricky but we showed great resilience.

In English, we have started our next Power of Reading book. This half term we are looking at How to Find Gold. The children were introduced to the book and made predictions about what they think it is going to be about. They then looked at the characters and created character descriptions for them both. We can’t wait to delve further into the book and discover what the adventure has in store for us.

In Science, we have been looking at materials and what we already know. We named lots of different materials and then had to match a variety to their name.

In R.E, we were introduced to celebrations. This week, we have looked at how Hindu’s celebrate love by investigating what a Hindu wedding looks like.

Our Championship Point winner last week was Charlotte. Well done for collecting those championship points Charlotte.

Our Team Championship Point winner was Determination. They’ve been working hard as a team, encouraging each other to get those championship points. Well done Determination.

Last Week

May9

Last week in Maths, we consolidated all of our learning on fractions and completed our post-assessment task. We then planned and made our pizzas using our knowledge of fractions. We worked well as a team and discussed what we wanted on them. They were very yummy!

In English, we have a new genre of work to write. This half term we are concentrating on Non-Fiction and are building up to write our own Non-Chronological Report about Seaside holidays around the world. In Art, we have been introduced to a new Artist, Jane Robbins, that we are inspired by. We have looked at different patterns we could use before going on a pattern hunt and finding some around our school environment.

In History, we have started our new topic on Seaside Holidays in the Past. We looked at a range of photographs and investigated which ones are from the past and present. We discovered that not all photos that are black and white are from the past.

In R.E, we thought about things we could give up for love and read the story about Dogger. We then discussed times that we had given things up for love and shared this with the class. The children wrote some lovely examples in their books and it made us proud reading them.

Our Championship Point winner last week was Karly. Well done for collecting those championship points Karly.

Our Team Championship Point winner was Self Belief. They’ve been working hard as a team, encouraging each other to get those championship points. Well done Self Belief.
