3rd Week!

September24

We’ve had a fabulous first few weeks in year 1.

The children have settled into the rules and routines of the classroom brilliantly and have worked so hard even though it is a big jump from Reception! We are looking forward to the year ahead and cannot wait to see the progress the children make.

In English, we have been busy working hard reading our new Read Write Inc texts in our different groups. We have been focusing on spelling using the sounds we know and our Fred Fingers and have been practising our letter formation.

In Maths, we have developed our knowledge of number bonds by using numicon and cubes to investigate all of the ways to make 10. We have also looked at finding 1 more and less than a number before really challenging ourselves and finding 2 and 10 more and less. This week we are going to focus on 2D shapes, naming them and being able to describe their properties.

In Science, we have been exploring the human body. We have labelled the body parts and looked at what they do. We have also discovered all about the senses and which body part they are linked too. This week, we will carry out a senses walk and put them to the test.

In Topic, we have been introduced to how toys have changed over time. We have looked at Victorian toys and sorted them from new toys. We explained why we thought certain toys were from the Victorian time and decided that we prefer the toys we play with today.

In R.E, we have spent two weeks looking at the creation story. We created actions for each day and then practised in small groups before performing to the whole class. Then we ordered the story correctly and wrote a sentence about each day.

Our Learning Hero of the Week this week was Megan for always showing resilience in all that she does. Well done Megan!

Our Championship Point winner was Lucy. Well done for collecting those points up Lucy!

Our Championship Team winner was Passion. Well done for working as a team!

Percy the Panda went home with Daisy this week. We can’t wait to see what they’ve both been up to.

Important Information:

Reading books are due in at least once a week.

Home Learning is given out on Fridays and is expected to return the following Wednesday.
