Happy New Year

First of all I would like to wish you all a Happy New Year! I hope you had a fabulous break and are looking forward to seeing what this year brings.

In English, we have been busy working hard reading our new Read Write Inc texts in our different groups. We have been focusing on spelling using the sounds we know and our Fred Fingers and have been practising our letter formation. This week, we will be changing groups and coloured books.

In Maths, we looked at number and place value. We have been finding the missing numbers in sequences, on numbers lines and 100 squares. We have also been finding 1 more/1 less and 10 more/10 less than numbers. The challenges have been getting harder and we’ve been working hard to complete some more of the mastery and greater depth work.

We have started our new topic based around Meerkat Mail. We were introduced to the book by looking at illustrations and discussing with our table groups what we thought the story would be about. We then wrote some fantastic sentences making predictions. The next day we read the story and found out whether any of us predicted the story correctly.

In Geography, we have located the 7 continents of the world on a map and then labeled a blank map. We then completed a power up challenge to find the UK and see what continent it was it

In Art, we have begun our new unit of work based around the artwork of Natalie Graham who was famous for her watercolour animals paintings. This week, we have looked at the colour wheel and had fun mixing primary colours to create secondary colours. We have also used marbling to create our new topic book front covers.

Well done to Callum.B who was our first Learning Hero of 2018! He has come back to school showing a great attitude towards his learning and is working hard to develop his resilience. Well done Callum.
